About the Artist
Warren is a life-long Hawaii resident except for the 4 years he spent on the Mainland attending college. His interest in woodworking and working with his hands was developed at a very young age. His Grandmother, Margaret Mau Na’ai owned Countryside Cabins in Punalu’u, ‘Oahu, where he spent most weekends helping her maintain the cabins and the 1.5 acres of property, which included identifying and cultivating numerous trees.
After a long engineering career at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Warren took up
woodturning in 2015 at the urging of his friend Kyle Iwamoto, whose works are also featured at Nohea Gallery. Warren enjoys turning almost every kind of wood, but is very fond of our local native woods, such as milo and acacia koa. He has had his works featured at the Mayor’s Mango Jam festival as well as the Mayor’s annual wreath contest. He and friend Kyle Iwamoto have also turned dozens of bowls from the rare nawa tree which fronted The Queens’ Medical Center (QMC). If you recall, the QMC nawa tree fell in late 2015 following severe windstorms.
Warren is currently the Vice President of the Honolulu Woodturners organization.
He teaches woodturning classes at the Aloha Community Shed in Kalihi and resides in the Liliha area.
