About the Artist

I was born on the island of Oahu in the Hawaiian archipelago. I grew up above my familyʻs chick hatchery in the Kalihi ahupuaa. Interwoven in the story and fabric of my family are strands of sea folk, forest folk, shrine keepers, farmers, carpenters, artisans, a long lost calligrapher, and a mason who sculpted figures of goddesses with black asphalt.

Originally schooled as a poet, my adventures have taken me into the realms of visual art, literature, film, independent media, live art, community-based local food systems project design, and supporting the development of wildlife conservation projects.

After years of living in San Francisco, London, and Palolo Valley Iʻve returned to our little hatchery in Kalihi Kai.

The work I am sharing here is profoundly guided by a lifelong wonderment and kinship with the cetacean realms.

These creatures are hand formed. Stoneware and porcelain bodies remain unglazed, allowing the diverse nature of the planetary composition of clays to be revealed. Firings at high temperatures honor the elemental cycles of life: water, earth, fire, and time.

A portion of artist proceeds are shared with various groups working to protect wildlife and restore wilderness.
