About the Artist
Rosalie was an acclaimed and beloved artist in the Hawaiian islands for over 50 years. Since 1959 Rosalie Prussing has captured a lively and playful view of Hawaii with vignettes of our people and special scenes around the Islands. She was one of the Founders of the Windward Artists Guild, a non-profit volunteer member guild organized in 1960 by a group of Windward artists that lives on.
She has won many awards but more importantly, was genuinely gifted in her ability to bring joy with her creations. (Look for the Myna Bird she hides in most of her work.)
Rosalie passed away at age 87 in November 2011. She is missed every day. Nohea Gallery is grateful that her family continues her legacy by sharing her art with many people from around the world. The proceeds from sales of her art funded her grandchildren’s college education.
All of Rosalie’s images are made with a giclée printing process. With the advent of the giclée, the art of fine art printing has become even more precise. The term “giclée”, a new type of very true to the original reproduction, is based on the French word for a jet or a nozzle. It is derived from the verb “gicler”. In the giclée process, a fine stream of nontoxic water based ink is sprayed onto the archival art paper or canvas, creating a fine art quality reproduction that is light years advanced from offset printing of the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s. Quality giclee printed reproductions are superior in color accuracy and longevity. Still, it’s best practice to keep them from exposure to strong sunlight or moisture. Enjoy!
