About the Artist
MARYANNE LONG, a retired history and study skills teacher from Massachusetts, has called Hawai`i home for 37 years. Despite having no formal art education, she learned to paint using oils, but drifted into watercolors and gouache because the paintings dry much faster. She eventually developed her own chocolate-based paint, and continues to experiment with different media and styles.
In addition to collecting other artists’ work, she writes a twice-monthly art column, LONG on ART, in MidWeek newspaper, and also curates art shows.
