Monochromatic II by Alina Kawai

Monochromatic II by Alina Kawai is an original mixed media on canvas.

The artist’s goal is to give rise to our inner assumptions of the piece based on our own perceptions of life and societyShe also believes this work, like color-field painters, has the ability to reach that inner part of our humanity to unravel our personal stories.
We now challenge you, as the viewer, to contemplate such realities and enjoy the work that Alina provides us here in Hawaii.

From the Artist

“Emphasizing on color and form is important in my artworks. It has become a way for me to relate to the human psyche and existence. I take interest in how we instinctively react to color with innate responses. I then allow individual pieces to present different emotional drama, whether it is based on vulnerability, chaos, or inquisitiveness. Also, by using particular color combinations, I find this as a way to relate to anthropological cues of cultural histories. In short, I believe this intimate experience translates as a visual language and offers dialogues that can lead to questions of how we mark ourselves in time.”1

She is a graduate of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Alina currently works in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.

Lastly, we hope you enjoy her work as much as we enjoy bringing it to you.
