Your piece, which has a wax finish, requires minimal care. Enrich periodically with a paste wax, or a bee’s wax, by applying with a clean cloth, allow 10-15 minutes before buffing off with cloth. This will keep the wood beautiful and happy for years to come. Enjoy!
For the Honolulu Woodshow 2020 Barry brought us a beautiful Chocolate Albizia Bowl.
Chocolate Albizia or Albizia lebbeck
There are two species of Albezia growing in Hawaii. Falcataria Moluccana (Batai) is the tall tree most commonly found. Albizia Lebbeck (chocolate albizia or White Monkeypod) is a shorter tree and is the less toxic of the two.
Albizia lebbeck is a species of Albizia, native to Indomalaya, New Guinea and Northern Australia and widely cultivated and naturalised in other tropical and subtropical regions. English names for it include lebbeck, lebbek tree, flea tree, frywood, koko and woman’s tongue tree. The latter name is a play on the sound the seeds make as they rattle inside the pods.
