The Artist about himself

I’m a painter and photographer living and working in Honolulu, Hawaii. I grew up in Cazenovia, New York, where my parents and teachers encouraged my creativity from day one. At Gettysburg College, I was fortunate enough to explore a range of visual arts, including illustration, painting, ceramics, and photography. I instantly fell in love with every medium. When I moved to Hawaii, my focus shifted to photography with a picturesque scene around every corner.

When my camera broke during the onset of the pandemic, I picked up a paintbrush and fully shifted my creative focus.  I put into practice my college professor Mark Warwick’s advice and sketched out and painted something new every day. This led to my current passion, abstract geometric line paintings on wood. As an added bonus, most pieces are functional mazes.

Painting brings me peace and offers me a place to clear my head and recharge. My goal is to bring that same feeling to each and every one of my paintings.

Birch

Birch is a hardwood that comes from the genus Betula. There are over a dozen species of birch trees native to North America, but the most common are white birch, yellow birch, and black birch. Yellow birch and white birch are the two most commonly found in woodworking. Birch is a heavy wood, hard, and strong. It has very good benign properties, with good crushing strength and shock resistance.
