Pat Kramer is a woodturner emphasizing bowls, boxes and hollow vessels. His pieces range from traditional Hawaiian forms to contemporary studio work. He also has a background in pottery, boat building, furniture making, constructed boxes, and engineering.
He first began to work with wood in 1958 and then returned to woodturning in 1986. He realized woodturning offered new freedom in shape and form. It was not bound by the disciplines of fabrication techniques. The sculptural possibilities and contemporary forms in woodturning have been his present focus.
The artist says this of his work, “There is an intimacy that develops while working with a material in such a raw state. It is this collaboration that creates flow and rhythm in the work and allows the original intent to find its shape. It gives each piece a unique journey and every piece a story to tell.”
